# Blakeney

A development journal for a sailing game set on Blakeney Harbour, North Norfolk.

Blakeney is being rebuilt in **Unreal Engine 5**. The idea is not a generic sailing game with local scenery added afterwards, but a little world you can sail through, walk around and recognise — mud, marshes, channels, boats, weather, and the slightly peculiar experience of trying to get somewhere when the tide has decided otherwise.

## What Blakeney is

A game, in the making, of Blakeney Harbour as it actually is.

It started as **Blakeney Pit Sailing**, a small free iPhone game. That game still exists. This new project takes what was learnt there and rebuilds the harbour properly in Unreal: boats, buildings, landscape, scale.

It is early. Unreal is running on a Mac in North Norfolk. The first milestone is a boat on the water that already feels like the Pit.

## What Blakeney is not

It is not a sequel in the marketing sense, not a big-studio production, and not finished. It is not the original iPhone game, which remains its own thing.
